Né à Saint-Chamond, une petite ville de la Loire, le designer français Christophe Terzian avoue être obsédé par le vêtement depuis sa plus tendre enfance. C’est donc comme une évidence à 17 ans qu’iI intègre ESMOD. Diplômé en spécialisation homme en 1992, il commence tout de suite à dessiner des collections à Paris. A l’école, c’était la technique et la couleur mais aussi l’ornementation qui étaient devenues sa passion et sa force. Cette passion s’est affirmée depuis qu’il partage son temps entre Paris et Shanghai où il présente ses défilés durant la Fashion Week. En 2012, Terzian décide de fabriquer son premier blouson biker en cuir, ne trouvant pas les proportions et qualité qu’il recherchait. Le succès est immédiat, avec ses amis passant commande pour leur biker et des boutiques le démarchant pour vendre le modèle. L’année suivante, il lance sa propre marque qui va devenir une ligne complète de prêt-à-porter homme et femme, vendue par des boutiques phares telles que Luisa Via Roma à Florence, Tomorrowland à Tokyo et Tsum à Moscou.
Inspiré par l’attitude subversive du Punk et la dimension théâtrale du Rock, Terzian fusionne ces influences avec le romantisme exacerbé de la culture Hippie qu’il affectionne particulièrement: «J’ai toujours aimé les artistes rock et leur style affirmé, du glam de Bryan Ferry au grunge d’Axl Rose. J’habille aussi bien des musiciens que des célébrités, car ils sont instinctivement attirés par mes pièces. Mes collections incorporent des éléments 70s, vus à travers le prisme des années 90.»
Dans sa dernière collection « BLISS ON METROPOLIS », il associe une patte artisanale à des lignes épurées, trouvant un bel équilibre entre douceur et force. Ses bikers emblématiques sont peints de roses, ornés de clous et de chaînes, ainsi que d’aplats de couleur évoquant les motifs tie-dye. Un blouson de cuir sans col marie un imprimé léopard à des flammes rouges et jaunes -et des clous métalliques- rappelant le chic insolent et provocateur des New York Dolls.
Des shorts amples et jupes courtes en cuir finissent la silhouette, à la fois sûre d’elle et confortable. Une veste en agneau effet denim est minutieusement rebrodée de perles et ornée de franges multicolores, tandis que le cuir se tricote à la main pour devenir du crochet, ajoutant une touche spontanée au travail de Terzian: «J’aime l’artisanat un peu fou qui me permet de réaliser des pièces uniques et hors du commun. Je commence souvent par la matière et vois jusqu’à quel point elle me laisse aller. Si ma vision est théâtrale et pleine d’humour, je n’utilise néanmoins que des matériaux de très haute qualité, de l’agneau ultra doux au crêpe de Chine soyeux. Mes vêtements célèbrent l’imagination et soulignent l’individualité de ceux qui les portent. La mode doit rester un plaisir.»

Christophe Terzian, handcrafted leather for international success

In 2012, Terzian decided to make his first leather biker jacket, not finding the proportions and quality he was looking for. The success was immediate, with his friends ordering for their biker jackets and shops contacting him to sell the model. The following year, he launched his own brand that will have become a complete line of ready-to-wear for men and women, sold by flagship stores such as Luisa Via Roma in Florence, Tomorrowland in Tokyo and Tsum in Moscow.
Inspired by the subversive attitude of Punk and the theatrical dimension of Rock, Terzian fuses these influences with the exhilarating romanticism of the Hippie culture, which he is particularly fond of: "I've always loved rock artists and their assertive style, from the glam of Bryan Ferry to the grunge Axl Rose. I dress both musicians and celebrities because they are instinctively attracted to my creations. My collections incorporate elements of the 70s, seen through the prism of the 90's. "
In his latest collection "BLISS ON METROPOLIS", he combines a craft vision with clean lines, finding a nice balance between softness and strength. His iconic biker jackets are painted with roses, decorated with nails and chains, as well as flat areas of color reminiscent of the tie-dye motifs. A collarless leather jacket marries a leopard print with red and yellow flames - and metallic studs - reminiscent of the insolent and provocative chic of the New York Dolls.
Loose shorts and short leather skirts finish the silhouette, both safe and comfortable. A denim-effect lambskin jacket is intricately embroidered with pearls and multicolored fringes, while the leather is knitted by hand to become a crochet, adding a spontaneous touch to Terzian's work: «I like crazy craftsmanship that allows me to make unique and out of the ordinary pieces. I often start with the material and see how far will it let me go. If my vision is theatrical and humorous, I still use only the highest quality materials, from ultra soft lamb to silky crepe de Chine. My clothes celebrate the imagination and emphasize the individuality of those who wear them. Fashion must remain a pleasure.»
